Frances Ha

Welcome to my first commercially viable film poster created for new wave indie comedy Frances Ha starring Greta Gerwig and directed by Noah Baumbach. The poster won 1st place in the State of the Art Cinema 'design a movie poster' competition run by Movie Preview Network and Metrodome Distribution. 

"I've decided that due to the extensive brief provided by the filmmakers and producers that half the decision making is done for you before you've even begun, which in my creative point of view is a new way of working. Quentin Tarantino said "most film posters nowadays look like a Vanity Fair photo shoot", basically the point he's making is mainstream film posters all look a bit samey samey, it is commercial art after all. As an artist there's a fine line between following a pre-ordained creative direction while finding a way to express myself within a popular genre but I’m up to the challenge. It’s a great project for me and may lead to more film related work in the future." The workflow software included Corel Painter IX, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator CS3.
